The project was originally conceived by Irina D as a tribute, with Spike invited to record a single track, 10 7 and Possibly 6. The first take immediately changed the direction of the sessions. Baileys guitar and Spikes voice reconnected with a familiarity that led naturally to further recordings, and what began as a one-off contribution developed into a complete, fully realised album. As Spike later reflected, the opportunity to record again alongside Guys playing carried particular weight.
More than a conventional best of, God Bless America presents a reworked and recontextualised body of material drawn from Thirstys earlier catalogue. The recordings have been revisited through new vocal interpretations, duets and revised arrangements, creating a posthumous collaboration between Bailey and his longtime musical partner.
