From Press release / website: With Ravel Recomposed, Victor le Masne pays homage to one of the greatest masters of French music history. Following his success as composer and musical director of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, Le Masne now turns his attention to the music of Ravel, which has accompanied him since childhood. Ravel Recomposed builds bridges between tradition and the present: classical music and jazz combine with the pulse of French Touch to create the unmistakable sound that has made the Grammy-winning composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist internationally renowned. The double LP will be released on 21 November 2025.
The reinterpretations of Bolro, Jeux d’eau, Le jardin ferique and excerpts from Daphnis et Chlo, L’enfant et les sortilges and the string quartet, among other works, are being released to mark the 150th anniversary of Ravel’s birth. The album features Christine and the Queens (lyrics, vocals), Julius Asal (piano) and Camille Thomas (cello).
The album, with its twelve tracks, is the latest addition to Deutsche Grammophon’s groundbreaking Recomposed series. Matthias Arfmann kicked off the series 20 years ago with his arrangements of recordings by the Berliner Philharmoniker under Herbert von Karajan. This was followed by Peter Gregson’s reinterpretation of Bach’s cello suites and Max Richter’s acclaimed reworking of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, among others.
